Anabantoids

Anabantoids mainly hail from South East Asia. Many are from stagnant pools and blackwater, where it is very advantageous to have an ability to breath air. A few can even climb onto land if they feel their current pool is not enough.

Common Characteristics:
Food: Most are predatory, and will eat flake or other formulated foods willingly.
Breeding: Most are bubblenest builders, caring for the eggs until they hatch, but not much after. Others are often mouthbrooders.
Water Parameters:

Softer water, pH: 6.5-7.5, A few want very acidic water.

Temperament: Often aggressive with their own kind.
Origins: Asia, Often from still puddled water.
A Few Exceptions:

Chocolate Gourami: Likes a very acidic pH, and must be housed with only its own species. Also has several other very specified parameters for water quality.

Paradise Fish: Would rather cool still water over warm water, very pretty, and fairly easy to breed, though adult males can be as aggressive as Betta males, and should not be kept together.
