Bettas

(Wild color Betta splendens)
Betta is normally only used to describe on species,
Betta splendens, the Siamese Fighting Fish. This is strange
as there are many species of bettas, and splendens is not the
most colorful. Some are mouthbrooders, and others create bubblenests
like Betta splendens. Some even live in rapidly flowing water,
unlike most anabantoids.
All these fish share
a few characteristics, but to varying degrees. All are carnivores
and most show some care of their young at least. Some are highly
territoral, while others don't really mind their own species
much.
