- Corydoras
- Callichthys

Most of these fish share a few characteristics. All are armoured with overlapping scales and have sensitive barbels in front of their mouths. Most come from slightly cooler water, and many can be bred in home aquaria. Most prefer acidic to neutral water, clean substrates are a must. Generally peaceful tank mates are better.
Most of these fish will breed best if kept in groups, of 3-10, as they seem to like group spawning. Often they are set off by a slightly (1-2 degree) cooler water change. Some species need to be kept in large groups, mainly the pygmy breeds, as they can be very nervous in small groups.
