Step Two: Setup, Fish Choice and Decor

Tank setup is a very important subject. Everyone wants their tank to be perfect and beautiful, but some don't realize the work it can take. First there are some decisions to be made. Take a sample of your tap water to a fish store, and they will probably test it for you for free. They should be able to tell you the hardness and pH. These are very important in choosing fish. Some fish come from hard water with a high pH, and others from soft water with a very low pH. For a newcomer it is easier to keep fish already adapted to your water rather than struggle with changing water parameters with every water change.
