Painted Turtle (Chrysemys picta)

Synonyms: ...
Stats: Adult Size: 4"-10" shell
Temp: 70-85 F
Cage: 36" minimum
Requirements: These guys grow to be large dirty turtles. They will need a tank as deep as they are wide (at least), and a haul out with enough space for every turtle to comfortably use it. Above the haul out you will need a heat lamp. They will need UVB lighting.
Diet: Commercial turtle pellets, crickets and other insects, come veggies a possibility. Live fish also a possibility.
Breeding: Males have wider tails and slightly concave lower shell surface. They need access to land to lay eggs. They dig a hole and there is not further care.
Sociability: Similarly sized individuals can often be kept together as long as you make sure each is eating. Some turtles tolerate handling better than others.
Special Info: These guys stay slightly smaller than red ear sliders and are probably the second most popular aquatic turtle.
They do not need to be hibernated if they are pets.
